Apply your talent where it counts as a People Lead – Early Careers within our Maritime Australia People Team based in the Osborne Naval Shipyard.
About the Opportunity
As the People Lead, Early Careers for the Maritime Australia business, you will have the opportunity to cultivate our next generation shipbuilding workforce. You will be responsible for the management of all Early Careers & Trades Development programs within BAE Systems Maritime Australia. This will encompass all Graduate, Intern, Apprentice, Trainee and Work Experience programs. You will have a passion for early careers with the ability to incorporate the voice of apprentices and students into design of programs and training that impact their experience of BAE Maritime Australia.
You will:

  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to co-design and deliver programmes within the early careers and trades portfolio, aligned to the Hunter Class Frigate Program and BAE Systems Australia business strategies
  • Manage a small team of subject matter experts responsible for the delivery of effective trades and graduate program administration, design of new apprenticeship & traineeship programs, and trades capability and training
  • Effectively translate the Strategic Workforce Plan into an Early Careers Plan, using data and business insights
  • Contribute to the management of the training budgets
  • Develop shipyard work experience and annual schools engagement plan
  • Work with Government departments, Universities, TAFE, Schools and Colleges and with the Maritime Australia Resourcing Lead to place apprentices, graduates and interns
  • Ensure the business deploys a ‘Safety First' approach to culture, which protects the health and safety of all employees, contractors, partners and the Customer
  • Act as a steward and role model to drive a high performance and inclusive culture
  • Provide tactical advice regarding vocational and higher education, trades training analysis and design, and build frameworks for effective deployment
  • Provide direction and governance towards the development and implementation of Trades training curriculum and licensing requirements
  • Manage and negotiate service agreements with Training providers and Registered Training Organisations
  • Maximize the utilisation of all State and Commonwealth grants and funding opportunities
  • Work effectively with Talent Acquisition and Apprentice Network Provider to drive recruitment and attraction strategies

About you:
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:

  • A relevant Diploma or Degree or demonstrated experience working with or in the vocational education and training sector
  • A Certificate IV TAE40116 Training and Assessment or its successor
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead a team of professionals in an early careers or training environment
  • Demonstrated organisational, project management and administrative skills including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in grant, tender or proposal writing
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with the ability to interact with students, employee representatives, union officials, legal practitioners and government agencies
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to represent the Company in large scale external forums
